Combee on Palm OS

Our new developer site went live today, and we're experiencing some problems. Please be understanding and know that we're working on fixing these issues.

  • While we moved the developer login information over to the new site, we were not able to move the password settings. When you login, it will act like your account is invalid. In fact, the account is there, you just need to request a new password and use that to login. Once you're in the site, you can update your password to one of your own choosing.
  • Some people have reported that their creator IDs aren't associated with their account anymore. You can check this by going into the "Manage My Applications" section of the site, then click on "Get a Creator ID". A popup window will appear showing the IDs for which you've registered and when they were granted. We don't have a way for you to access your old application descriptions right now, but I've asked if we can generate a report from the old database that we can send out to developers with that information.
  • There is a bug with the editing of application data that you've entered with the "Submit new application" form. Right now, when you go in to edit your application, the creator ID you picked isn't being preserved. This should be fixed soon; in the meantime, just submit with the bad ID, then edit it again to pick the correct creator ID code.
  • Access to seeding material and Palm OS source code isn't yet available with the new program. We are working on the revised legal agreements to provide access to this, and I should be able to give more information in early January.
  • We do not yet have archived material posted on the new site, but it is coming. We will have archive pages where you can download older versions of the Palm OS SDK, CDK, and Emulator. In the meantime, older versions of the Palm OS Emulator source are available at SourceForge as part of the CVS tree.
  • Older Palm OS ROM images (prior to Palm OS 4.1.2) are not posted on the site right now. The older ROMs contain the original Graffiti code which is under legal review.
  • The site occasionally refers to developers as "customers" or "shoppers". These should be cleared up soon.

I do hope you try out the new site and provide feedback to us; the best place is on the palm-dev-forum mailing list, as I'm monitoring that along with other people at PalmSource. The new provider should have much better bandwidth, especially outside the US, than our previous site, meaning faster downloads. The new site also has let us integrate the creator ID and application databases, meaning there's just one stop to go to get your ID, register your application, and perform the self tests that let you use the Palm Powered logo. It also does a better job of managing the download process from the PalmSource site; before you would get directed to a login page, and then sent back to the same page you were on, but now the download links would work. The new site directs you into a download area within the program. The new developer information should also let us communicate more efficiently with you.
